Our guidance counselors will be an integral part of one's school life. Teaming with a Dean of Students, the counselor will be working with your child for the full four years helping to promote both academic and personal growth. Our staff of counselors offers a broad range of support to meet the needs of all our students.
During the school year, the counselors have group meetings and individual conferences to address the issues of each year of high school and help students make good decisions. Counselors meet with juniors and seniors regularly to begin the college and/or career orientation process. They provide support to all students throughout the year, and have a wealth of information that will help students plan their future. Our counselors are also adept at helping students through personal and family crises.
Students should feel free to make appointments with their counselor when they need advice on any problem, academic or personal. Parents/guardians are also welcome to make appointments to discuss our programs or concerns about your child. We look forward to working with you during these exciting years!
Each student is assigned to a counselor upon enrollment, and continues to work with that professional throughout high school. Incoming freshmen receive counselor assignments in June prior to freshman year, and families are welcome to contact the Guidance Department at any time prior to that with questions. Parents may request the guidance counselor of the older sibling for a younger sibling(s) entering AHS. This is the only exception to our alphabetical counselor assignments. Contact Mr. Garrigan for details.
The Guidance Department is located behind the main office area. Walk past the main office, turn right down the first corridor, and the Guidance Department is at the end of the hall on the right.
