MCAS Review In-Class Activity (2017-18) Directions: Click on the link above. Go through the 22 questions and click "submit answer" after each question. After finishing the whole quiz, get your total score and include it on your sheet (see yellow below). After completing the test, make a list of the topics that were involved in the questions you got wrong. Make a note/star next to topics where you got multiple wrong. You can definitely be more specific than this and include specific terms (ex. prokaryotes), but at least write down the general topics and terms involved in the questions (ex. cell types). Our general bio topics are: Cell parts & types, Mitosis & meiosis, Diffusion/cell transport, Biochemistry, Genetics, DNA & protein synthesis, Evolution, Photosynthesis & respiration, Ecology (mostly covered last year), Kingdoms of life, (Anatomy and physiology - not done yet) 2) Ecology review. You guys covered the Ecology topics last year in Environmental Science. We will review them briefly again, but I think everyone needs a good period of time to review and remember the ideas. We are going to use two PowerPoints from another Massachusetts teacher reviewing Ecology for Bio MCAS. You need to take a solid block of time now to read through PowerPoint #1 and internalize the topics covered. Do not rush or skim. Read things over as many times as you need to remember them well again. (Remember, the better you do this, the better you will do...). Scroll down to the bottom of this page and click on the attached file: MCAS Review Ecology 1 Same directions as practice quiz #1 above and same thing to write on your lined paper. (See directions above again if needed and see the yellow below again for what to write on your lined paper). 4) Ecology review - round 2 Same plan as #2 above, but with the second PowerPoint of Ecology concepts attached below. Take a solid chunk of time to do this well - read through this slowly and process all that you read. (File below is: MCAS Review Ecology II). Same idea as the practice quizzes but this is a longer one with the answers given at the end. When you submit your answers at the end, you will get a list of those you got incorrect. Click on the questions to see what they were! See the yellow below for what to write down on your lined paper. A BLOCK - You guys will stop here. You need to finish steps 1-5 above well in class and/or for homework. You may hand in your lined paper to the substitute or I will collect them when I return on Wednesday. E BLOCK - Turn in your lined paper to the substitute at this point. But you have more class time, so then keep going below! :) 6) Review of topics from early on. We're going to take some time to not only review Ecology, but topics from earlier on this year: Biochemistry and Cell Biology. There are two PowerPoints below to use to review. Take some quality time and independently read through them, internalizing the information so you remember it again. 7) Biochemistry and Cell Biology review packets Please get the Biochem and Cell Bio review packet from the substitute and work on this as the last written part of the review. But keep the PowerPoints handy in case you need to use them to help you find the answers! The two Ecology PowerPoints from earlier could help you with the last two sides. WHAT TO WRITE & TURN IN ON YOUR LINED PAPER: Please write exactly what's stated and described below on a piece of lined paper with your answers. A block, note where you stop. 1) MCAS practice quiz #1 Number correct (out of 22): Topics and terms involved in most of my wrong answers: 3) MCAS practice quiz #2 Number correct (out of 22): Topics and terms involved in most of my wrong answers: 5) MCAS practice test Number correct (out of 22): Topics and terms involved in most of my wrong answers: |
