AP Literature and Composition

Summer Reading Assignment

In order to start our year off running, we need to read Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre over the summer.

This is a great read and is an extremely useful text for us to analyze and discuss-- it also happens to be the #1 suggested read for the Open Response Essay on the AP Test.

To make the most of this text, please ANNOTATE as you read. This will be GRADED according to the following criteria:

  1. Significant Plot + Character Development

  2. Authorial Choices (diction, syntax, figurative device, imagery, motif, point of view, --CONCRETE PATTERNS)

  3. Development of Theme (ABSTRACT IDEAS)

*To effectively annotate, you should be interacting with the text at least once every page, and every underlined passage must be explained with marginal notes.

Be ready for an objective test/quiz and some in-depth passage analysis when we return!
